Description

DE LAS CASAS illustrates some of the firsthand accounts of the inhuman atrocities committed by the Spanish when they "discovered" and then sacked the New World during the 15th and 16th centuries. A former slaveholder himself, Dominican friar Bartolome de las Casas eventually became a voice for the native peoples of the Americas after witnessing one barbaric act after another. He spent the later part of his life advocating for a more humane policy of colonization.
